Exodus 29- Ordination of Priests

1 This is how you, personally, will ordain them to My service as priests; Take one young bull calf, and two rams without flaw,

This is the ceremony that will make Aaron and his sons fit to be God's High Priests.

2 And using fine wheat flour, make loaves of bread, big and small, with olive oil but no yeast, and wafers with no yeast but brushed with oil.

Make some tortillas:
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 3 Tablespoons oil
  • 1 Tablespoon salt
3 You will put them all into one basket, and bring them in the basket, with the bull calf and the two rams.

4 And you, personally, will bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and  wash them with water.

5 And then take the special clothes you made, and put them on Aaron; the coat, the robe of the tunic, the tunic, and the breastplate, and put the woven belt on him.

6 And you, personally, will put the turban on his head, and put the gold plate on the turban.

7 Then take the anointing oil, and pour it on his head, and anoint him.

8 You will bring his sons, and put coats on them.

9 And you will put belts on Aaron and his sons, and put the caps. And the priest's office will be theirs for a continuous law, and you will ordain Aaron and his sons.

The priest's office it to be passed down from father to son.

10 And you, personally, will have a bull calf to be brought in front of the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and Aaron and his sons will put their hands on its head.

11 And you, personally, will kill the bull calf before the I AM, by the door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

12 And you, personally, will take the blood of the bull calf, and put it on the horns [at the corners] of the altar with your finger, and pour all the blood beside the bottom of the altar.

13 And you, personally, will take all the fat that covers the inner organs, and the long lobe of the liver, the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, and burn them on the altar.

Burn all the organs and their fat. Don't eat them.

14 But the meat of the bull calf, and his skin, and his dung, you, personally, will burn with fire outside the
camp. It is a sin offering.

Sin offerings weren't to be eaten at all, but burnt to ashes.

15 You, personally, will also take one ram, and Aaron and his sons will put their hands on its head,

16 And you, personally, will kill it, and his blood, and sprinkle it around on the altar.

17 And you, personally, will cut the ram in pieces, and wash his inner organs, and his legs, and put them with his pieces, and head.

18 And you, personally, will burn the whole ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to the I AM. It is a wonderful scent, an offering made by fire to the I AM.

The ram, however, was to be burnt on the alter itself.

19 And you, personally, will take the other ram, and Aaron and his sons will their hands on its head,

20 Then will you kill the ram, take his blood, and put it on the tip of Aaron's right ear of Aaron, and on the tip of his sons' right ears, and on their right thumbs, and on the big toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood on the altar all around.

21 And you, personally, will take the blood that is on the altar, and the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron, his clothes, and on his sons and their clothes, and then he, his sons, and their clothes will be ordained.

22 Also you will take the ram's fat, the rump, the fat that covers the inner organs, the long lobe of the liver, the two kidneys, the fat that is on them, and the right shoulder, (because it is a ram of ordination),

23 And one big loaf of bread, one small loaf of oiled bread, and one wafer out of the basket of unleavened bread that is before the I AM,

24 And you will put it all in Aaron's hands, and in his sons' hands, and wave them for a wave offering before the I AM.

25 And you, personally, will take them from their hands, and burn them on the altar for a burnt offering, for a wonderful scent before the I AM. It is an offering made by fire to the I AM.

26 And you will take the breast of the ram of Aaron's ordination, and wave it for a wave offering before the I AM, and it shall be your part.

Moses gets to eat the ribs.

27 And you will sanctify the breast of the wave offering, and the shoulder of the lifted offering, which is waved, and which is lifted up, of the ram of the ordination, even of that which is for Aaron and his sons:

Aaron and his sons get to eat some of the ribs and the shoulder roasts.

28 And this offering will be Aaron's and his sons' by a law forever from the children of Israel, because it is a lifted offering: and it shall be a lifted offering from the children of Israel o
f the sacrifice of their peace offerings, even their lifted offering to the I AM.

Anytime there is a peace offering the priests get the ribs and shoulder roasts.

29 And these are the clothes Aaron and his sons will be ordained in from now on.

30 And the son that is priest in Aaron's place, will wear them for seven days when he comes in the Tabernacle of the Congregation to minister in the Holy Place.

The consecration ceremony for a priest will take a week.

31 And you will take the ram of ordination, and boil its meat in the Holy Place.

32 And Aaron and his sons will eat the meat of the ram, and the bread that is in the basket by the door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

33 And they will eat those things used in the atonement, to ordain and purify them. But no one else will eat them because they are holy.

34 And if any of the meat or bread of the ordination is left over by morning, then you will burn it up. It will not be eaten because it is holy.

This would so reduce food poisoning! Burn up any meat not eaten the day it was butchered.

35 This is what you will do to Aaron and his sons, just like I have commanded you. You will take  seven days to ordain them.

36 And you, personally, will offer every day a bull calf for a sin offering for a ransom for sins, and you will purify the altar, when you have made a ransom for it, and you will anoint it, to sanctify it.

37 For Seven days you will make a ransom for the altar, and purify it, and it will be a most holy altar. Whatever it will be holy.

38 Now this is that which you will offer on the altar; two lambs less than a year old, each day, forever.

39 Offer one lamb in the morning, and the other in the evening.

40 And with the lamb offer a half gallon of fine flour mixed with a gallon of beaten
oil, and a quart of wine for a drink offering.

41 And the other lamb you will offer at evening, and you will offer the same food offering as with the morning offering, and the same drink offering, a wonderful scent, an offering made by fire to the I AM.

42 This will be a continuous burnt offering for all your descendants, at the door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation before the I AM. This is where I will meet you, to speak to you.

43 And this where I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be purified by My glory.

44 And I will purify the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and the altar. I will also purify both Aaron and his sons, to minister to Me in the priest's office.

45 And I will live among the children of Israel, and will be their God.

46 And they will know that I am the I AM their God, that brought them up out of the land of Egypt, that I may live among them. I am the I AM their God.
