Leviticus 10- The Sin of Nadab and Abihu

Aaron's sons, Nadab and Abihu, each took their incense burner, and put fire in it, and put different incense than what the I AM had commanded and offered to the I AM.

And the I AM sent out fire to burn them up, and they died before the I AM.

Then Moses said to Aaron, "This is what the I AM meant when He said, 'I will be treated as holy by those who come near Me, and in front of all the people I will be glorified." And Aaron kept silent.

And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel, the uncle of Aaron, and said to them, "Come here, carry your brothers from in front of the sanctuary out of the camp."

So they went near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp, like Moses had said.

And Moses said to Aaron, Eleazar, and Ithamar, his sons, "Don't uncover your heads, or tear your clothes, or you will die, and God's anger will come on all the people. But let your brothers, the whole house of Israel, mourn the burning which the I AM has kindled.

"And you will not go out of the door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation, or you will die, because the anointing oil of the I AM is on you." And they did what he said.

Restrictions for Priests

The I AM spoke to Aaron, saying,

"Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when you go into the Tabernacle of the Congregation, or you will die. This is the law forever.

"And so that you may make a difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean,

"And that you may teach the children of Israel all the laws which the I AM has spoken to them by the hand of Moses."

And Moses said to Aaron and his sons who were left, Eleazar, and Ithamar, "Take the meat offering that remains of the offerings to the I AM made by fire, and eat it without yeast, beside the altar. Because it is most holy.

"And you will eat it in the holy place, because it is thy due, and thy sons' due, of the sacrifices of the I AM made by fire, because that's what the I AM commanded.

"And the wave breast and heave shoulder you will eat in a clean place, thou, and thy sons, and thy daughters who live with thee, for they are thy and thy son's payment, which are given out of the sacrifices of peace offerings from the children of Israel.

"The shoulder and the breast shall they lift up as offerings along with the burnt offerings of fat, to wave them for a wave offering before the I AM, and it shall be thine, and thy sons' with thee, according to the law forever, just like the I AM has commanded."

And Moses diligently sought the goat of the sin offering, and, behold, it was burnt! And he was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, the sons of Aaron who were left alive, saying,

"Why didn't you eat the sin offering in the holy place, since it is most holy, and God has given it to you to carry the sins of the congregation, to make payment for them before the I AM?

"Behold, it's blood was not brought into the holy place. You certainly should have eaten it in the holy place, like I said."

Aaron said to Moses, "Look, today they have offered their sin offering and their burnt offering before the I AM, but look at what has happened to me. If I had eaten the sin offering today, would it have been accepted in the sight of the I AM?"

And when Moses heard that, he approved.
