Leviticus 4- Laws for Sin Offerings

And the I AM spoke to Moses, saying,

"Speak to the children of Israel, saying, 'If someone sins through ignorance, breaking any of the commandments of the I AM concerning things which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of them:

"'If the anointed priest sins just like the people, then let him bring a young bull calf without flaw to the I AM for a sin offering.

"'And he shall bring the bull calf to the door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation before the I AM,  and will lay his hand on the bull calf's head, and kill it before the I AM.

"'And the anointed priest will take the bull calf's blood, and bring it to the Tabernacle of the Congregation:

"'And the priest will dip his finger in the blood, and sprinkle it seven times before the I AM, in front of  the veil of the sanctuary.

"'And the priest  will put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the I AM, which is in the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and will pour all the bull calf's blood at the bottom of the Altar of the Burnt Offering, which is at the door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

"'And he will take all the bull calf's fat that covers the innards off for the sin offering.

"'And the two kidneys with their fat, which is by the flanks, and the entire liver will he take away.

"'Just like taken off of the bull calf offered for a peace offering, and the priest will burn them on the altar of the burnt offering.

"'And the bull calf's skin and flesh, with his head, legs, innards, and dung,

"'Even the whole bull calf shall he carry out of the camp to a clean place, where the ashes are poured out of the altar, and burn him on the wood with fire.

"'And if the whole congregation of Israel sins through ignorance, and the sin is hid from the eyes of the assembly, and they have done something against any of the commandments of the I AM, and are guilty,

"'When their sin becomes known, the congregation will offer a young bull calf for the sin, and bring him in front of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

"'And the elders of the congregation shall lay their hands on the bull calf's head before the I AM, and kill it,

"'And the anointed priest will bring the bull calf's blood to the Tabernacle of the Congregation,

And the priest will dip his finger in some of the blood, and sprinkle it seven times before the I AM, even before the veil.

"'And he will put some of the blood on the horns of the altar which is before the I AM, that is in the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and will pour out all the blood at the bottom of the Altar of the Burnt Offering, which is at the door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

"'And he will take all the fat off of it, and burn it on the altar.

"'And he will do with this bullo calf just like he did with the bull calf for a sin offering, and the priest will make a payment for their sins, and they will be forgiven them.

"'And he will carry the bull calf outside the camp, and burn it like he burned the first bull calf. It is a sin offering for the congregation.

"'When a ruler has sinned, and done something through ignorance against any of the commandments of the I AM his God concerning things which should not be done, and is guilty;

"'Or if his sin that he has sinned, comes to his knowledge, he shall bring his offering, a flawless, male kid of the goats.

"'He shall lay his hand on its head, and kill it in the place where they kill the burnt offering before the I AM. It is a sin offering.

"'And the priest will take its blood with his finger, and put it on the horns of the Altar of Burnt Offering, and shall pour its blood at the bottom of the altar of burnt offering.

"'And he will burn all the fat on the altar, as the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings, and the priest will make a payment for him for his sin, and it will be forgiven him.

And if any one of the common people sin through ignorance, doing something against any of the commandments of the I AM, doing things which shouldn't be done, and is guilty,

"'Or if his sin, which he has sinned, comes to his knowledge, then he will bring a flawless, female kid of the goats for a sin offering to pay for his sin.

"'And he will lay his hand on the head of the sin offering, and kill it in the place of burnt offerings.

"'And the priest will take its blood with his finger, and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and will pour it all out at the bottom of the altar.

"'And he will take away all its fat, just like the fat is taken away from off the sacrifice of peace offerings, and the priest will burn it on the altar for a sweet scent to the I AM, and the priest will make a payment for his sins, and they will be forgiven him.

"'And if he brings a lamb for a sin offering, he shall bring a flawless female.

And he will lay his hand on its head, and kill it for a sin offering in the place where they kill the burnt offerings.

"'And the priest will take some of its blood with his finger, and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and will pour out the rest of its blood at the bottom of the altar.

"'And he will take away all of its fat, Just like the lamb's fat is taken away from the sacrifice of the peace offerings. And the priest will burn them upon the altar, according to the offerings made by fire to the I AM, and the priest will make a payment for his sin that he has committed, and it will be forgiven him.

These offerings really only "paid the rent" on sins; they didn't really take them all away.

Hebrews 10:4 "For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins."

What they did do was pay the installment until Jesus died on the Cross, like an "interest only" mortgage payment. His sacrifice did completely pay off all sins of those who ask for forgiveness.

Hebrews 10:10 "For God's will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time."

So, when someone asked for forgiveness for their sins before The Cross, they were looking down though history with Faith that God would someday provide the perfect sacrifice to completely erase all sins. They were looking forward to Christ.
